The faithful reproduction of a refined “nécessaire à parfum”, inspired by the personal accessories once belonging to Marie Antoinette of Austria, reconstructed with the utmost accuracy on the basis of documented historical examples. This object embodies the full grace and preciousness of the eighteenth century, uniting art, tradition, and the unmistakable taste of the Queen. The trompe-l’œil designed to resemble an antique volume recalls the intimate atmosphere of her private apartments, where every detail was chosen with care; the leather cover, enriched with embossed floral motifs and gilded fleurs-de-lis, reflects the elegance of the Bourbon monarchy, while the spine and false pages, entirely crafted by hand, restore the authentic impression of a Rococo book, perfectly aligned with the aesthetic favoured by Marie Antoinette.
Inside, two transparent glass vials, gently set within a soft lining, contain fragrances reconstructed with historical rigour in order to restore the Queen’s true olfactory universe. The first vial holds the “Parfum du Trianon”, evoking the serenity of the Petit Trianon, the personal retreat cherished by Marie Antoinette, surrounded by white flowers, aromatic herbs, and delicate scents that accompanied her most intimate moments. The second vial bears no predetermined name: its fragrance may be established in agreement with the patron (“Ésprit de Roses”, “Eau de Cologne”, or other historically documented preparations), drawing from essences genuinely used by the Queen. In this way, each nécessaire preserves its own harmony and offers the opportunity to evoke, with delicacy and fidelity, an authentic and solemn fragment of the Queen’s private olfactory universe, as it might have existed within her apartments and her most intimate moments.
A small funnel, modelled on the type found among her original accessories, completes the ensemble and allows for an elegant and discreet transfer. This nécessaire is not merely a precious object, but an authentic fragment of everyday history: a way of approaching the gestures, the perfumes, and the sensibility of Marie Antoinette, restoring the grace and delicacy of her private world.
